Inheriting the culture of
wood and iron
Since ancient times, "Wood and Iron" have had an inextricable place in Japanese cultre.
Our traditional steel-making method called "Tatara" uses iron sand, and charcoal to elicit high purity steel, which along with our rich *Hamono culture [Japanese "Hamono" refers to a tool used to cut or sharpen and includes, chisels, planes, knives and blades. Japanese "Hamono" consists of two materials, a softer metal and a hard steel, forged together in a unique process.], gave birth to "Nihonto" (Japanese sword). Nihonto are arguably the best iron swords in the world.
Even though knives are still indispensable in our everyday lives, our opportunity and necessity to use them have decreased over the years, in favor of more convenient and electronic tools.
In Japan, we still have a rich blacksmith heritage, and the knowledge and techniques needed to carry on the old Japanese *Hamono traditions.

We believe it is important to understand the value of basic knife skills like "cutting" and "shaving", and to hearken back to a time when every man knew how to properly wield a knife, proudly owned one, and respected its power and utility.
We are committed to revitalize the *Hamono industry by introducing products more suited to our everyday modern life, to preserve our traditional *Hamono culture, and to nurture our inheritance of wood and iron.
This is why we started "FEDECA".

"FEDECA"
Our name "FEDECA" comes from the periodic element symbol for iron "FE" and carbon "CA" and represents the materials used for steel making. FEDECA's mission is to promote the culture of traditional Japanese cutlery by using charcoal and iron. In Italian, "FEDE" also means "Trust".
Our trust in our products, and our commitment to customers are also incorporated into our name.
